Dear Parents/Guardians of 7th and 8th Grade Students:
In preparation for the upcoming state mandated testing, we wanted to communicate the dates of testing. For students who are currently enrolled in English I, testing will be the 2015 End of Course for the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, identified as the EOC test. The English I EOC tests now combine the reading and writing into one test. Students are required to take and pass this mandated test in order to fulfill their graduation requirements.
Our students enrolled in 8th grade English will take the 8th grade Reading STAAR. Students in the 7th grade will take the Writing STAAR.
Below is the March 2015 spring STAAR and EOC testing schedule for students in grades 7th and 8th:
Monday, March 30English I EOC; 7th grade Writing STAAR Day 1
Tuesday, March 318th grade Reading STAAR; 7th grade Writing STAAR Day 2
Students taking the Writing STAAR and Reading STAAR will be given four hours for each test, as dictated by the STAAR/EOC system. Students taking the English I will be given five hours for the test, as dictated by the STAAR/EOC system. If your child is absent on an EOC or STAAR testing day, there will be a make-up day scheduled during the testing window.
Teachers and administrators are working to provide engaging experiences for your child that will help them think critically, problem solve and learn the required curriculum (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for each grade level, subject and course. If you would like more information about the STAAR system, the STAAR page on the TEA website (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar) is an excellent resource.
